Athletes and fitness enthusiasts recently took part in first family mud run, Ultimate Run, introduced by Brad Vaccaro, owner, and director of the Sports Conditioning Institute in Oakland. The two-mile NJ mud run, which took place on Garret Mountain in Woodland Park, also required participants to scale a 6-foot wall, navigate through 50 old cars, crawl through tubes and splash through a mudslide. The event raised nearly $1,000 for two charities, MS Charity 4 Kids, and Family Reach Foundation. Andrew Nashed, 18, and Danny O’Keefe, 26, battled for supremacy in the men’s heat, with Nashed finishing in first place by three seconds. Kristen Sweeney, 23, won the women’s heat. There was also a “Mini- Mudders” race for children ages 4-12.
