HOW TO PREPARE FOR A MUD RUN
WHAT ARE MUD RUNS?
Mud runs are fun fitness activities that use obstacle courses and a lot of mud. These courses offer a variety of obstacles and challenges like running, climbing, crawling, jumping, and lifting. Since these runs are all different and cater to various ages and skill levels, they can be fun for the whole family.

5 WAYS TO PREPARE FOR A MUD RUN
If this is your first mud run, there’s a lot to keep in mind. Below, we’ll cover five tips that will help you make your first mud run a success.
1. DON’T TAKE IT TOO SERIOUSLY
Your first mud run should be a fun experience, so don’t stress about pushing yourself to your limits. We recommend watching other people tackle an obstacle before you try it; it may help you get through it easier. Ultimately, the goal of the race is to have fun, especially if you bring kids. You’ll never forget this experience!
2. EAT LIGHT
Are there specific foods you should eat before your first mud run? Both kids and adults should try to eat proteins and carbohydrates the night before. Carbohydrates are great for storing energy for when your body needs it. However, you don’t need to go crazy with it. Eat a reasonable amount because too much protein can cause dehydration, and too many carbs can make you feel sluggish.
Whole grain cereals, low-fat yogurts, and fruits are good breakfast options for the day of your mud run.
3. PLAN YOUR CLOTHING
When it comes to clothing, we highly recommend wearing things you don’t mind getting dirty. It should come as no surprise: you’re going to get muddy! We recommend wearing old clothes or clothes you don’t mind throwing out afterward. The ideal outfit would be a form-fitting shirt, shorts, and an old pair of shoes. More than likely, you won’t want to keep your shoes after the run, so don’t bring shoes you like or want to keep.

4. REMEMBER TO PACK WATER
When you’re participating in a mud run, you’re going to get thirsty! Like any physical activity, it’s always good to stay hydrated. We recommend drinking plenty of water before, during, and after your race. While our mud run races are short and designed for beginners, parents should keep track of their kids to make sure they’re not getting dehydrated, especially in hot weather. Bonus: extra water can be used after your race to clean up some lingering mud.
5. REMEMBER TO PACK A CHANGE OF CLOTHES
After your race, you’re going to want to change out of your muddy clothes. We recommend clothes that are easy to get on after the race, and you don’t care if they get messy, like baggy clothes and flip-flops. Even after showering off, you’ll probably still have mud on you, and more than likely, even your underwear will still be mud-soaked. You’ll thank yourself for being able to quickly change out of the cold, soaked clothes to something dry and comfortable for your drive home.
